Lydstep Caverns

Lydstep Caverns is a sandy beach located west of Lydstep Head and is only worth visiting on a very low tide. The beach is backed by high limestone cliffs and is a popular venue for climbers and as its name suggests, it has some spectacular caves and arches. This is another spectacular location in Pembrokeshire and its unique setting presents an opportunity when weather conditions are favourable, to paint a memorable scene.

With this painting, I was keen to capture the contrast between the sandy beach and rocky terrain of one of the caverns. It makes a powerful composition and with the help of my palette knives, I set to create a painting that reflected the character of the place.
