Just another little gem along the Pembrokeshire coast. Once I started on the painting, I was well aware of the strong light gleaming on the cliff face and combined with the vivid colour of the sea, the contrast had to be captured in the painting. The use of the pallet knife can produce rich textures in many forms and I believe this has added that extra touch of complexion to the whole subject matter. A gathering storm building up into such a spectacular atmosphere presented another opportunity to capture the dramatic scene on canvas.

With the focus on one of the historic lighthouses perched on the rocky peninsula of this tidal island, the turbulent waves present an ambience of mystical quality – the exact aura I set out to express in my painting.
